Betty Buckley 1967
From the Tony Award-Winning Actress of CATS and SUNSET BOULEVARD, Her Never-Before-Released Debut Recording!
Betty Buckley is one of only a handful of women who can be referred to as a real Broadway star and a true legend. Her very first audition in New York, back in 1969, landed her in the Broadway musical 1776, her first of many to come. She won the coveted Tony Award for her portrayal of Grizabella in the Original Broadway Cast of Cats and has appeared in many shows, including Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard, both in London's West End and on Broadway. She has acted in many films and starred on television, but this recording is an unexpected surprise, both to Buckley herself and for the fans who will get to hear it.
Titled BETTY BUCKLEY 1967, it was recorded when she was only 19 with a then-young producer named T Bone Burnett, now a legend as well. As Buckley said, "He had the only studio in town," referring to where they both grew up - in Texas. She recorded it for her boyfriend at the time, and for legendary agent and producer Roger Hess, who was interested in signing Betty after seeing her as a guest performer on the 1967 Miss America Pageant. Betty was Miss Fort Worth, 1966.
Having learned of this recording when Betty Buckley casually mentioned it during a recent interview with PLAYBILL magazine, Playbill Records and Masterworks Broadway are excited to release this newly rediscovered treasure.
